Strayhorn
Malte Dürrschnabel (sax), Rainer Böhm (p), Henning Gailing (kb) and Silvio Morger (dr) bring legend Billy Strayhorn into the here and now: Malte Dürrschnabel Quartet at Jazzclub Live!
Saxophonist Malte Dürrschnabel (World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra and Subtone, among others) dedicates his new project to the music of Billy Strayhorn, who is one of the greatest arrangers and composers of jazz. The pianist shaped Duke Ellington's Orchestra, composed, wrote the lyrics and arranged the famous "Take the A-Train" and would have turned one hundred in 2015.
Dürrschnabel's band is also prominent: Rainer Böhm is indisputably among the crème de la crème of German pianists, having played with Dave Liebman and Albert Mangelsdorff, and most recently with Dieter llg on the Jazztage stage at the Leipzig Opera House. Add to this the gripping, earthy pulse of bassist Henning Gailing (who has played with Lee Konitz and Mark Murphy, among others) and Silvio Morger's drumming, which has accompanied such greats as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Peter Herbolzheimer and Nils Wogram. And so it comes as no surprise that these four virtuosos find new sides to the classic and make its pieces their own.
