For the first time, the Leipziger Jazztage and the Bachfest are presenting a concert together: jazz piano legend Richie Beirach from the USA will perform at the UT Connewitz as part of this year's Bachfest on June 17, 2017 at eight - just a few days after his 70th birthday and exactly 50 years after the release of his first solo album.
New York-born Richie Beirach is one of the most important pianists in jazz, playing with giants such as Lee Konitz, Freddy Hubbard, Stan Getz, John Scofield and Chet Baker. In a trio with violinist Gregor Hübner and double bassist George Mraz, he has released the albums "Round about Bartók," "Round about Federico Mompou" and "Round about Monteverdi" on the renowned ACT label in recent years. In keeping with the name of his 2002 album "No Borders", he always impressively demonstrates how the boundaries between classical music and jazz disappear when a giant like him takes classical pieces as his starting point and moves on to lyrical improvisations. This is exactly what he will do at the Bachfest at UT Connewitz: take off with Bach in improvisations that carry the audience away.
