The Berlin quartet plays gripping, intelligent and direct. Head of the band is Philipp Gropper, surely known to some from Hyperactive Kid and TAU. In these bands, the tenor saxophonist has developed a distinctive style with his own tone and sound material, which also characterizes Philm's music. The band's sound is also defined by an interwoven simultaneity of action that repeatedly develops an orchestral, irresistible pull. With Elias Stemeseder, Andreas Lang and Oliver Steidle (MusikZeit 2014) Gropper has found three outstanding musicians who are strong enough not to fall into the trance states of the pieces, but instead play with them and drive them forward.
