MusikZeit: Etna and Fhlaipw
TIP
ÄTNA are singer Inéz Schaefer and percussionist Demian Kappenstein. The Dresden duo recorded their debut EP in 2017 with indie showcase producer Moses Schneider (Tocotronic, Kante, Tele, Fehlfarben...) featuring sung songs, beaten beats and bizarre electronic sounds. "Minimalist, fat and ethno" is how the two describe their music, in which haunting vocals and minimalist beats meet electronic effects. These then multiply Schaefer's expressive voice, for example, to achieve orchestral effects and colorfully beguiling bands of sound. Incidentally, Schaefer and Kappenstein got to know each other at a 90s party, where they exchanged ideas about common heroes: Enya, Thom Yorke and Prodigy. What a mixture!
Electronica, indie rock and jazz form largely independent scenes of their own in Leipzig. Some protagonists, however, jump back and forth between them - like Philipp Rumsch (Denovali) and Arpen (Analogsoul). Together with Jörg Wähner (Apparat, The/Das) and visualization artist Andi Rueckel they present their new audiovisual project, which combines voice, sound surface and repetitive rhythms.
