Michael Wollny Trio
The red-hot [em] follow-up trio on Nov. 23 at the Telegraph. Trio.Diktion, Leipzig Jazz Nachwuchspreisträger 2014, opens the evening at 8:30 pm.
On the 2014 album "Weltentraum" Michael Wollny once again goes completely new ways: Because [em]-bassist Eva Kruse is on maternity leave, Wollny forms the US-American Tim Lefebvre on bass and Eric Schaefer on drums around him and processes with them works by Varèse, Hindemith, Berg and Rihm up to the Flaming Lips. His music sounds like never before and yet as crashingly vital, emotional, intelligent, virtuosic and open to all directions as usual.
Simply no one plays the piano like the pianist, music inventor, lateral thinker and popular figure, born in 1978: the unpredictable, the search for the previously unheard, the courage to surrender to the moment, the unexpected in a natural sound - "This is what the future of German jazz sounds like" (ttt).
Since this semester Michael Wollny is now piano professor at the HMT Leipzig - what fits better than to have him supported by Trio.Diktion at his inaugural concert? The quartet around Nun Wollny student Philip Frischkorn has just been awarded the Leipzig Jazz Young Talent Award of the Marion Ermer Foundation at the 38th Leipzig Jazz Days.
The concert will take place at the Telegraph and not at the UT as originally announced.
