"Metropolis Paradise" is the new album by multi-award winning drummer Mareike Wiening and the latest production from the famous Systems Two Studios in Brooklyn, New York. The current formation is the continuation of the quartet that has existed since 2014 with saxophonist Rich Perry, guitarist Alex Goodman and bassist Johannes Felscher. All of the co-players are groundbreaking as soloists and as band members, and are at the forefront of jazz in New York. The music is inspired not only by the influences of the Big Apple, but also by Wiening's former adopted home: Scandinavia. Catchy melodies, interesting rhythms and clever bass lines give the music its unique character. The musical dialogue between soloist and band is another feature: the result is an extraordinary program "with a modulating harmonic language and a propulsive groove. The music is part chamber jazz, part intense rock, part free improvisation," writes the New York Times.
