Little heroes, my ass! The bassist, born in Stuttgart in 1948, ranks more in the "legend" category. Schmid made wild soul music as a singer and guitarist in various bands. Then the electric bass became his main instrument. He worked as a sound engineer and in 1972 joined Passport, the band of saxophonist Klaus Doldinger. Over the years there were very different groups, often trios with electric guitar, drums and Wolfgang Schmid's unbreakable bass foundation, such as PARADOX with guitarist Bill Bickford and drumming legend Billy Cobham or the trio with Cobham and guitarist Peter Wölpl. In 1987 Wolfgang founded his band KICK. This band exists in different formations until today. Furthermore he was musical director in the TV show "Super Drumming". If you have 1:25 minutes to spare, you might want to take a look at the show hosted by Pete York. Just search YouTube for "awesome bass solo" and Wolfgang Schmid. "Ned schlechd" is what they would probably say in Swabia. In Leipzig, Schmid will meet the host of the "Kleine Helden" series, guitarist and university professor Werner Neumann. Together, the two will talk about career highlights, the curious and the offbeat and, of course, perform their favorite songs on stage.
