The Johannes Bigge Trio creates impressive
moods with their playing, which captivate the listener from the first to the last note.
The musicians are inspired by the simple beauty
of good pop music, the sophisticated composition of classical music and
the freshness and liveliness of improvised jazz.
The result is idiosyncratic compositions, rhythmically concise with
a modern, colorful harmony and strong melodies.
Grounded by Athina Kontou on double bass, driven by
Friedemann Pruß on drums and steered by Johannes Bigge
on piano, the trio explores the paths opened by the compositions of
pianist.
Johannes Bigge has been playing the piano since childhood and began improvising and soon composing as a
teenager. At the age
of 15, he received his first jazz piano lessons from Tim
Sund and has been studying with Richie Beirach in Leipzig since 2008. He is
composing and active as a pianist in various bands.
The native Berliner met his two fellow musicians while studying at
the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre, where they played together in
various formations from the beginning and have formed a permanent trio since 2010
.
Athina Kontou has been studying double bass with Manfred Bründl in
Weimar and with Pepe Berns in Leipzig since 2006.
Friedemann Pruß began his studies in 2007 with Heinrich Köbberling
in Leipzig and moved to Berlin in 2010 to study with John Hollenbeck.
