The drummer Jim Black grew up in Seattle, studied at the renowned Berklee College in Boston and has lived in New York since the early 90s. With the group Human Feel (Chris Speed, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Andrew D'Angelo) he recorded several albums, later toured worldwide and worked repeatedly with Paul Motian, Charlie Haden, Uri Caine and Carla Bley. He plays with Chris Speed and Skúli Sverisson in the bands Pachora and AlasNoAxis, and with Carlos Bica and Frank Möbus in Trio Azul.
His Jim Black Trio since 2008 includes the young Austrian pianist Elias Stemeseder (piano) and the Californian Thomas Morgan (double bass), who has recorded with John Abercrombie and Jakob Bro, among others.
