Active since the 1990s, the HMT Big Band, under the direction of flautist and composer Rolf von Nordenskjöld, has long since become a permanent institution on the Leipzig jazz scene.

Musically, the formation moves between classical and contemporary big band standards, but is also open to contemporary pop cultural influences. Due to the constant influx of new members, both the line-up and the ensemble's program are subject to a continuous process of change. 

And so the HMT Big Band's current repertoire includes pieces by greats such as Bill Holman, Rob McConnell and John Clayton as well as compositions and arrangements by the students themselves. This year's program is rounded off by the title piece "How Long Is Now", which was written by Nordenskjöld and will be interpreted by singer Sophia Sytnyk.
