Jazzclub Live: Samo Šalamon / Julian Argüelles / John Hollenbeck
T ! P
Samo Šalamon is one of the great young jazz guitarists. He studied in Maribor and New York (with none other than John Scofield). For over ten years he has been touring North America and Europe in various constellations, playing with Scofield, Nguyen Lê, Michel Godard and Mark Turner, among others. The Slovenian cosmopolitan is as much at home in the New York underground as in the European avant-garde. Time and again Šalamon plays in various unusual formations without bass - as he does here with a new trio. British tenor saxophonist Julian Argüelles, who also once started out as a guitarist, has also played with Scofield, but also with some other illustrious names such as Archie Shepp, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow and John Abercrombie. The U.S. drummer John Hollenbeck made his last guest appearance in Leipzig in the fall - with his almost legendary Claudia Quintet at the Telegraph as well as with the Spielvereinigung Sued at the naTo.
