In the ninth edition of Reihe2, bassist Robert Lucaciu and drummer Philipp Scholz again invite two top-class musicians to play spontaneously. The British trumpeter and flugelhorn player Tom Arthurs has already been on stage with Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone and Jack DeJohnette. With his undisguised, mature and nuanced tone, he recently thrilled audiences in Julia Hülsmann's poetry project with Theo Bleckmann (but was unfortunately absent from last year's Jazztage). Austrian-born pianist Philip Zoubek is one of the most important minds on the contemporary improvisation scene. In his imaginative piano preparations, the sound explorer combines the traditional techniques of John Cage with a broad arsenal of materials (pots, plastic, and glass objects) to create a sound between playful percussion, simple noise, and sophisticated electronics.
