Jazzclub Live: Mostly Other People Do the Killing
Jazz calendar tip
The quartet from New York was formed in 2003 and is considered "a furious musical suicide squad that smutters jazz history from Count Basie to Weather Report in sparking trashy energy and takes no prisoners" (Andreas Felber). The band loves to play with classics that have become icons, be it on a visual or musical level. The record cover of their "The Coimbra Concert" is reminiscent of Keith Jarrett's legendary "Cologne Concert", but the music on it is completely different. The 2014 album "Blue", on the other hand, is completely different: It is the 1:1 copy of the most legendary "Kind of Blue", played back tone for tone, but freely interpreted in the record cover. A brilliant game of signs!
John Irabagon (sax), Ron Stabinsky (p), Moppa Elliott (comp, b) and Kevin Shea (dr).
