Saxophonist Matti Oehl is no longer an unknown quantity in Leipzig. He has long since made a name for himself through numerous concerts and projects, whether as a band member or sideman (Trio.Diktion, Philipp Rumsch Ensebmle, Duo with organist Arno Krokenberger, Spielvereinigung Sued, Rebirth of the Cool and many more). What is distinctive is his mysterious, at times dark sound, which is rarely heard on alto saxophones and which makes you completely forget the shrill 80s sounds. His multi-faceted playing is full of surprising details and nuances. Whether it's the bending of notes, the Coltrain-esque alienation of sound, or the richness of colors, shades, shapes and accents: Oehl's mode of expression seems almost endless. The years of apprenticeship with Enders have left traces, but very own, which do not have to hide behind the role model. Now his first record "Ornament" with his own quartet is released on the renowned Swiss label Unit Records. The line-up does without a harmony instrument and contains mainly Oehl's own positions. An exciting evening is in store for us - what luck to have such musicians in town. Listen for yourself!
