Jazzclub Live: Flashback #14 Nina Simone
TIP
... "as fragile as she was strong, as vulnerable as she was dynamic" - Nina Simone was many things at the same time and that with all her heart: classical and modern, singer and pianist, jazz and blues, folk and gospel, musician and freedom fighter of the civil rights movement in the USA. Trained in classical piano playing from an early age, she originally wanted to be the first black
concert pianist to fill Carnegie Hall. However, she was denied a classical piano degree and began playing and singing jazz standards in clubs. And it was precisely with this that she later filled Carnegie Hall several times. Singer Maike Lindemann is making her second guest appearance in the Flashback series; in December 2015, she dedicated herself to the songs of Billie Holiday with Florian Kästner and Pepe Berns. For her Nina Simone program, she has now once again gathered pianist Flo Kästner as well as bassist Matze Eichhorn and drummer Eva Klesse.
