Jazzclub Live: Flashback #13 Miles Davis & Gil Evans

Friday, 10.3. / 8.30 p.m. / the naTo
Spielvereinigung Sued feat. Sebastian Studnitzky
plays "Porgy and Bess" & "Miles Ahead!"
After 12 editions of "Flashback" (young artists play jazz charts), it's time again to venture into larger instrumentations. The forefather of symphonic jazz music for big band and large ensemble was the exceptional composer and arranger Gil Evans. He entered the professional business relatively late, but in the late 1950s he began his legendary collaboration with Miles Davis, which resulted in groundbreaking albums for large ensembles: "Miles Ahead" in 1957, "Porgy and Bess" in 1958 and "Sketches of Spain" in 1960. Excerpts from the first two will now be heard in this flashback concert at the naTo. Who, if not the Spielvereinigung Süd would be able to do this? This time, ECHO jazz prize winner Sebastian Studnitzky could be won as a guest on trumpet and flugelhorn. The Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist is one of the most active German musicians worldwide. He has toured in more than 50 countries and is a regular guest at major festivals - among others with his string project Memento, his band project KY (in duo/trio/quartet) and in recent years as a permanent member of the bands of Nils Landgren, Rebekka Bakken, Mezzoforte, Wolfgang Haffner, Dominic Miller or as musical director of Jazzanova Live!
