1st Tour: 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. II 2nd Tour: 2:30–4:00 p.m.
Leipzig is a jazz city. For decades, jazz has been a part of the city's streets, clubs, and concert halls
throughout the city. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Leipzig Jazz Festival, the “Jazz im Ohr” audio walk invites you to rediscover the history of Leipzig jazz in a unique way. On an audio journey with six listening stations, the past, present, and future of this vibrant musical history come together. Starting at the Kongresshalle am Zoo—an important venue for the early Leipzig Jazz Days—the audio tour leads past the naTo to the University of Music and Theater, where the next generation is being trained. The route continues to the site of the former Telegraph live club, to visions of the future for the “Haus der Festivals” at the SKALA, and finally to the GeyserHaus outdoor stage, where children and teenagers have set their own perspectives on jazz to music in a radio play they created themselves.
The result is a multifaceted portrait of Leipzig’s jazz scene across six stations, interweaving past, present, and future perspectives. Historical voices, concert excerpts, and narratives come together to form a rich tapestry of Leipzig’s jazz history, while experimental sounds point the way forward. The six audio stations can be explored on your own and independently of one another—on foot, by bike, or however you prefer. Those who’d rather discover Leipzig’s jazz history together can join one of the guided bike tours at the opening. The audio walk is open to everyone—whether die-hard jazz fans or newcomers who want to give it a listen for the first time.
