Flashback #20 Count meets Ella and the Duke
TIP
Night Time Jazz Orchestra (conductor: Senatsian Haas), Maike Lindemann (voc)
Three jazz legends in just one flashback concert? And then two big bands among them? That's not possible! Yes it is, the specially formed Night Time Jazz Orchestra (under the direction of Sebastian Haas) and guest singer Maike Lindemann make it possible: They tie in with the 1961 album "First Time! The Count Meets the Duke" as well as the two years younger "Ella and Basie!". The former brought together the orchestras of Count Basie and Duke Ellington at the time, i.e. Basie's blues and swing-influenced arrangements and Ellington's aesthetically influenced music. The Count Basie Orchestra had worked with Ella Fitzgerald on and off since the mid-1950s until Basie's death in 1984. It's great that the naTo is supporting the concert as co-organizer!
