Born in Berlin in 1938, pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach is one of the pioneers of European free jazz. He founded the renowned Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, worked repeatedly with pianist Aki Takase, to whom he is also married. Since 1970, his trio with saxophonist Evan Parker and drummer Paul Lovens has also been at the center of his work.
For this Jazzclub concert in Leipzig, however, he is forming a band that is as new as it is unusual: bassist Robert Lucaciu and drummer Steffen Roth are in their mid-twenties and thus a good fifty years younger than Schlippenbach. The trio acts according to the motto: No rehearsal, just gigs! And when these three improvisers take the stage, there is only the instrument and the collective.
