Canceled! Reading: Wolfram Knauer "Play yourself, man!" & concert: Heuken/Stadtfeld/Heigenhuber"
CANCELLED! The event will take place at another time. Tickets already purchased remain valid!
Wolfram Knauer, director of the Jazzinstitut Darmstadt, traces the development of jazz in Germany in his book "Play yourself, man!" published by Reclam in 2019. He delves into Berlin in the 1920s, shows the repression of swing and jazz by National Socialism as well as the awakening in postwar Frankfurt and the musical exchange with the GIs, he illuminates the scene in the GDR and illustrates the hustle and bustle of today's jazz community. Knauer's book is based on decades of research and passion - and it is an inventory of what is probably the most diverse of all musical genres that could become a standard work. The trio Heuken/Stadtfeld/Heigenhuber, winners of the 2019 Leipzig Jazz Nachwuchspreis, will frame the evening musically. On the one hand, the band explores more or less well-known songs from jazz and pop, and on the other, it devotes itself to the compositions of vibraphonist Volker Heuken, which clearly come from the language of jazz, but also undertake excursions into conceived improvisations, new music or conceptual compositions.
