Drum roll with flourish!

Percussionist Eric Schaefer has taken up his teaching position at HMT Leipzig!
Beginning with the summer semester 2021, the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre has once again provided striking proof of the attractiveness of its jazz department by appointing Eric Schaefer as professor of jazz percussion. The classically trained percussionist, who is familiar with New Music, has been stirring up the German jazz scene since the successful trio [em] together with Michael Wollny and Eva Kruse.
In the meantime, Eric Schaefer is regarded as an accomplished, versatile, profoundly ambitious and expressively striking instrumentalist of international stature. As a composer and artistic personality, he opens himself up to multi-layered cultural influences - such as Japanese tradition and avant-garde - and understands how to musically fuse them impressively in a very unique way. His ability to quickly grasp the strengths and weaknesses of students to be taught distinguishes him as a competent source of inspiration and a sensitive pedagogue.
Eric Schaefer - a real bang for the HMT in the music city of Leipzig!
