PRESALE FOR OPENING NIGHT AT THE LEIPZIG OPERA: Alexander von Schlippenbach’s “Globe Unity Orchestra,” followed by Charlie Huter & Ella Feingold

The next—and final—presale for the 50th Leipzig Jazz Festival begins on Thursday, August 6, at 12:00 p.m. for the opening night on October 17 at the Leipzig Opera. 


Alexander von Schlippenbach’sGlobe Unity Orchestrais celebrating60 years of “Apocalyptic Navel-Gazing”and bringing the most significant free-jazz orchestra in European improvisational music back to Leipzig. The Globe Unity Orchestra last performed here45 years ago at the6th Leipzig Jazz Days; now, the legendary ensemble is returning for the festival’s anniversary.

The second part of the evening will feature Charlie Hunter & Ella Feingold. What began for Ella Feingold in the late 1990s as an admiration for her great musical role model has now become an acclaimed duo. Together, they blend soul, funk, and jazz into a musical universe that is as virtuosic as it is laid-back.
