Musicians watch out!
Cultural Foundation awards four valuable master instruments for young Saxon musicians...
"Only with a good musical instrument does one's career progress. The young Leipzig virtuoso Olof von Gagern puts it in a nutshell: "The instrument was always an excellent companion for me during the three years. At almost every concert, the instrument was also admired - it is precisely the balance of subtlety and clarity on the one hand and the large volume on the other that is impressive" (Photo: Olof von Gagern, archive). In order to promote the careers of talented young musicians, the Cultural Foundation will again be awarding four valuable instruments, a violin, a viola and two cellos, from its Musical Instrument Fund next year. The master instruments will be made available on loan for a period of three years, with the possibility of an extension for a further two years.
Three of the four newly tendered instruments, the viola and the violoncello by master violin maker Ekkard Seidl and the violoncello by master violin maker Ehrfried Wunderlich were made in the traditional Saxon music corner in the Vogtland region. There exists a density of musical instrument makers that is probably unique in the world. For many generations, the art of musical instrument making has been cultivated and developed in family businesses. It is the concern of the Cultural Foundation to raise public awareness of this traditional craft and the high quality of its production.
In particular, members of the Saxony State Youth Orchestra, highly talented music students and prize winners of youth music competitions such as "Jugend musiziert" as well as young graduates or students at Saxony's music academies can apply as scholarship holders for the two instruments. Applications should be sent to the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony, Ralph Lindner, Foundation Director, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 56, 01109 Dresden, no later than February 10, 2012.
