Jazz Young Talent Award of the City of Leipzig with the support of the Marion Ermer Foundation
In 2021, the prize will be awarded for the 25th time and the winner(s) can look forward to both the prize money of €6,500 and a concert as part of the 45th Leipziger Jazztage, which will take place from 30.09. - 9.10.2021.
Initiated by the Marion Ermer Foundation in 1997, the Jazz Young Talent Award of the City of Leipzig is also offered by the Cultural Office in pandemic times!
In 2021, the prize will be awarded for the 25th time and the winner(s) can look forward to both the prize money of €6,500 and a concert as part of the 45th Leipziger Jazztage, which will take place from 30.09. - 9.10.2021. The Jazz Young Talent Award of the City of Leipzig with the support of the Marion Ermer Foundation is one of the many facets of Leipzig as a city of jazz, through which Leipzig's synonym city of music remains defined not only historically by means of one of the most important contemporary music forms.
The aim of the Board of Trustees was to create a non-provincial regional event with a special appeal by adding value to the award in addition to the prize money. For this reason, the jury, which is appointed annually, includes musicians of international standing such as Aki Takase, Michael Naura, Joachim Kühn, Richie Beirach, Gunter Hampel, Adam Pieronczk, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Angelika Niescier, Rolf Kühn and Heinz Sauer, as well as successful musicians of the upcoming generation such as Silke Eberhard, Winnie Brückner and Christian Lillinger, alongside the journalistic expertise of Bert Noglik. The list of previous winners, beginning with Michael Breitenbach and including David Timm, Ronny Graupe, Moritz Sembritzki, and Eva Klesse, proves that the prize can be a starting point for a successful career as a musician.
