The Simon Lucaciu Trio receives the Leipzig Jazz Young Talent Award of the Marion-Ermer-Foundation

Congratulations! The Simon Lucaciu Trio is the winner of this year's Leipzig Jazz Young Talent Award of the Marion Ermer Foundation. The prize, awarded by the Foundation with the support of the City of Leipzig, will be presented on October 14, 2023 at the opening of the 47th Leipzig Jazz Days at Schauspiel Leipzig.
After the award ceremony, the Simon Lucaciu Trio, consisting of Simon Lucaciu (p), Florian Müller (db) and Lukas Heckers (dr), will be featured in an award winners concert. And we are really looking forward to it!
The jury, consisting of clarinetist Rebecca Trescher and guitarist Kalle Kalima, chose the trio for, among other things, their distinctive band sound, their willingness to take risks when making music in the moment, and their original original compositions, which always combine composition and improvisation in a flowing and sophisticated way.
Not only because all three are outstanding musicians anyway, but probably also because they have already gone a long way together, their interplay is so special and interactive. For eight years already, the Simon Lucaciu Trio has been continuously working on the consideration of improvisation and composition. The trio formed in Plauen in 2016, and in the fall of 2018 they moved together to Leipzig to begin their jazz studies at HMT Leipzig. Since then they have moved through different stages of collaboration and (musical) development, winning prizes (Bundespreis "Jugend Jazzt" 2016, Mitteldeutscher Jazzpreis 2022) and releasing their debut album "STRG + X" in 2023.
