The prize, awarded by the Marion Ermer Foundation with the support of the City of Leipzig, will be presented on October 26 as part of the 46th Leipzig Jazztage "Talkin 'bout my generation" at the UT Connewitz.
After the award ceremony, Carl Christian Wittig and his ensemble Aurora Oktett will perform in an award winners' concert.
The jury consisting of Eva Klesse, Daniel Erdmann and Nadin Deventer selected the award winner from a total of fourteen very high-quality applications. In their jury statement, the jury members emphasized that Leipzig's young jazz scene is colorful, varied, active and diverse. The aim of the Jazzwuchspreis is to reflect and highlight this diversity.
Inspired and fascinated by classical modernism, contemporary jazz and current pop music, the double bassist founded the ensemble Aurora Oktett about six years ago. In the meantime, the musicians have firmly grown together to form a multi-faceted body of sound that effortlessly combines the energetic freedom of a jazz quartet with the melodic elegance of a string ensemble.
