Jazzclub : HMT Big Band #2

Prices
As part of our Jazzclub , the Big Band of the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig will be performing on two consecutive evenings: on July 10 and 11, the ensemble will present a diverse program ranging from traditional big band music to contemporary jazz.
Since 2001, saxophonist, flutist, arranger, and composer Rolf von Nordenskjöld has led the HMT Big Band. And he has done so with great success—since the 1990s, the ensemble has been a fixture on Leipzig’s music scene. Together with students, he presents a wide range of music, from newly arranged big band classics to contemporary compositions.
A special focus of the July concerts is on the students’ own works: their original compositions and arrangements showcase the creative diversity of Leipzig’s jazz scene of tomorrow. In addition, the program also celebrates the 100th anniversary of Miles Davis, whose musical legacy will be highlighted on both evenings.
Another highlight of the program features the HMT Big Band’s latest work: In January 2026, a live LP was recorded at the Schille, and some of its tracks may already make their way onto the stage. Which excerpts will actually be performed during the concert remains a mystery until the very last moment, making the two evenings all the more exciting. The vocal parts will be performed by Nora Lynn Handschuh, Leonor Resende, and Johann Balle.
