LET'S TALK ABOUT JAZZ, BABY
"May, May, it does what it wants", as the Franconian philosopher Lothar Matthäus would probably put it. But we say: No way, May does what we want!
And that means: music. More precisely, "other music", as we have always included in the title of this leading medium alongside jazz. It's already off to a good start: From April, which as we all know ends with World Jazz Day, we celebrate into May with the young Leipzig scene, listen to five bands, collect donations for SOS Méditerranée and Mosaik Leipzig. Then on May 1, the first of five HMT Stage Nights this month. In addition to the stage nights every Tuesday, the Telegraph will also be celebrating the squeaky-clean collaboration between Jazzclub and HMT, as there will be ensemble evenings on three Wednesdays to show what's currently going on at HMT in terms of jazz and popular music.
At the end of the month, someone who is already big will be on stage: you may know Ritsche Koch from the Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra or from his collaboration with people like the Beatsteaks, Peter Fox and Nils Frahm. Now in his late 30s, he has founded his own band, of course with illustrious fellow musicians, to be experienced on May 23. Five days later, we will once again be guests at the beautiful Werkcafé der Neuen Musik Leipzig when Jomo and Matti get the time capsule ready for Gerry Mulligan and Paul Desmond.
