Jazzkalender Jazzkalender in March

LET'S TALK ABOUT BIRDS
"You all know them, the four enemies of jazz: daylight, fresh air, mineral water and the unbearable roar of birds in the morning!"
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier ended his opening speech at the first "Jazz im Schloss Bellevue" in July 2017 with these words. We think it's very funny and very true. And we've wanted to share it here for a long time, which is finally fitting now that the roaring bats are slowly crawling out of their holes again.
But let's talk about jazz. We have four concerts this month, two contemporary and two flashbacks. We open on March 7 with the young Leipzig quintet 2gegen3, followed by the Night Time Jazz Orchestra (and Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerrald and Duke Ellington) at the naTo on March 9. Then the HMT Jazz Festival, the Book Fair and the LeipJAZZig Festival will provide evening entertainment before we bring Lea W. Frey (23.3.) and finally Olga Reznichenko (on 29.3. with Oscar Peterson's Easter Suite) to the Telegraph stage at the end of the month.
But we also want to take a closer look at MusikZeit in April. Under the banner of "indie jazz", we have the English piano trio of the moment, GoGo Penguin, as guests - as well as three German bands who don't see jazz and indie rock as being separated by a border: Trio Schmetterling (once again at last!), the Dresden duo Ätna (Demian Kappenstein and Inez Schaefer) and the brand new trio Fhlaipw (Philipp Rumsch with Arpen and Shramm). It's going to be very good, believe us!
A nice bottle of "mineral water" is now opening at the end of the day: Your Jazzkalender editorial team
