LET'S TALK ABOUT JAZZ... and... Well.
The onomatopoeic underpainting of a shoulder shrug. Drawn out questioningly at the end of a sentence. Hoping for an answer. Waiting. Ready to continue. Doubting. Justifying. What then? "Well." We don't really know either! November is drawing to a close, the rest of the year is slipping through our fingers and we would like to publish another Jazzkalender . But what else is there to announce and oh, what's the point of all the time and effort now - it's probably all going to be canceled anyway?
That’s why. Because we love doing this! Because we don’t want to shut ourselves off. Because behind all the concerts—whether organized by us or by others—that may once again have to be canceled and/or postponed, there’s an enormous amount of work, enthusiasm, and passion, both on and off stage! We don’t want that to be quietly swallowed up by the gloom of this COVID winter. Eventually, things will move forward again, and even in the meantime, not everything has come to a standstill. We’re meeting up less often, and when we do see each other, it’s mostly just eye contact—but hey, we couldn’t care less about this partial lockdown. All this back-and-forth. We’re keeping going. Uncertainty is our constant companion right now, and it’s never been known for keeping us on a steady course. So we weave our way, tightly entwined, through enigmatic darkness and take joy in (not-so-rare) rays of light: The 44th “ Leipziger Jazztage ” actually took place and gave us a wealth of wonderful memories, which we’ll share with you in this issue. The 2020 “ MusikZeit ” will take place on a digital stage, and the fiZZ collective will provide musical surprises with a digital AdventZZ calendar. Innovative ideas are sprouting up everywhere! Our video podcast will continue to provide weekly entertainment, and last but not least, there’s the radio. Christmas is coming. So, to wrap things up, simply combining our wishes and greetings:
