Jazz calendar #298

LET'S TALK ABOUT JAZZ ... and ... THEN AND THERE.
On October 19, 23.59 local time, Salomea conquered the packed live club Telegraph. Thus had begun the (temporary) end of the 43rd Leipzig Jazz Days "Future Music"! Gone was the rush of adrenaline - given way to a sprawling feeling of happiness that poured out in an hour-long dance through the night. But where are we actually after the end of a festival titled "Future Music"? Afterwards! But only in terms of the days, hours, minutes and seconds that the festival lasted. Until October 19, more than 7,000 people flocked to 27 concerts, lectures and films and got involved with "our" future music - between mystical silence, magical rustling leaves, breathtaking soundscapes, crazy improvisations and multi-layered grooves. And with lyrics that show attitude, among others by Brigade Futur III, who gave a first taste of this year's festival theme at the kickoff.
What a festival! The opening of the festival by our patron, Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung, and the subsequent awarding of the Leipzig Jazz Young Talent Award with a concert on October 10 at the UT Connewitz were already top-class. Later, countless danced to the Jazzelectric Night - this time at two venues, then the full and awakening night sounds in the naTo, new orchestral forms in the Kunstkraftwerk, head and belly cinema in the luminous Schauspielhaus, truly cosmic sounds in the Westbad, goose bumps in the duet in the Schaubühne Lindenfels, astonished children's eyes at the Jazz for Children in Werk 2, where for the first time "Peterchens Mondfahrt" was heard as a live radio play with music composed especially for it, and and and and. Finally, a highlight of the festival was the world premiere of the commissioned composition "Inseparable.Unteilbar. in the completely sold-out opera house on the occasion of 30 years of peaceful revolution with the Spielvereinigung Sued and the MDR-Rundfunkchor. Our warmest thanks go to our patron, Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung, as well as to the City of Leipzig, all patrons and sponsors for their valuable idealistic and financial support. Thanks to our Board of Trustees for putting together the program, to our tireless team, and to all venues for their great helpfulness. Thank you Bureau FM for the polished graphic design and Stefan Ibrahim for the artful illustration, thank you Susann Jehnichen for the impressive photos, thank you Nico "und sein Trupp" for the professional technical support, thank you all our authors, thank you Benny for editing and deed. And thank you, dear audience, for your curiosity and visiting all our events. Thank you, thank you, thank you...
The "music of the future" remains - growing with change - carried by courageous, experimental and unconventional musicians. Thank you for your music! You give us a joyful promise of the sounds of tomorrow and with it the confidence that it will continue.
The exciting concerts in our Jazzclub Live series and on November 27 Herbie Hancock!, who will take the stage of the legendary Congress Hall with his band and thus complete the 43rd Leipzig Jazz Days, will soon prove that it continues. Then it will have been a fantastic 12 days at 17 venues with more than 150 pioneers of the future from 18 nations.
