LET'S TALK ABOUT JAZZ ... and ... THEN AND AFTER.
On October 19, 11:59 p.m. local time, Salomea conquered the packed Liveclub Telegraph. This marked the (temporary) end of the 43rd Leipzig Jazz Days "Future Music"! Gone was the adrenaline rush - given way to a sprawling feeling of happiness that poured out in an hour-long dance through the night. But where do we actually find ourselves after the end of a festival entitled "Music of the Future"? Afterwards! But only in terms of the days, hours, minutes and seconds that the festival lasted. Until October 19, more than 7,000 people flocked to 27 concerts, lectures and films and got involved with "our" future music - between mystical silence, magical rustling leaves, breathtaking soundscapes, crazy improvisations and multi-layered grooves. And with texts that show attitude, including from Brigade Futur III, who gave a first foretaste of this year's festival theme at the kick-off.
What a festival! The opening of the festival by our patron, Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung, and the subsequent presentation of the Leipzig Jazz Young Talent Award and concert on October 10 at UT Connewitz were already top-class. Later, countless people danced to the Jazzelectric Night - this time at two venues, then the full and awakening night sounds in the naTo, new orchestral forms in the Kunstkraftwerk, head and stomach cinema in the luminous Schauspielhaus, truly cosmic sounds in the Westbad, goosebumps in a duet in the Schaubühne Lindenfels, children's eyes in amazement at the jazz for children in Werk 2, where "Peter's Journey to the Moon" was heard for the first time as a live radio play with music specially composed for it, and so on and so forth. Finally, a highlight of the festival was the world premiere of the commissioned composition "Inseparable.Unteilbar." in the completely sold-out opera house on the occasion of 30 years of peaceful revolution with the Spielvereinigung Sued and the MDR Radio Choir. Our heartfelt thanks go to our patron, Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung, as well as the City of Leipzig, all supporters and sponsors for their valuable moral and financial support. Thanks to our board of trustees for putting together the program, our tireless team and all the venues for their great willingness to help. Thank you Bureau FM for the sophisticated graphic design and Stefan Ibrahim for the artistic illustrations, thank you Susann Jehnichen for the impressive photos, thank you Nico "und sein Trupp" for the professional technical support, thank you all our authors, thank you Benny for proofreading and editing. And thank you, dear audience, for your curiosity and for attending all our events. Thank you, thank you, thank you...
The "music of the future" remains - growing with change - supported by courageous, experimental and unconventional musicians. Thank you for your music! You give us a joyful promise of the sounds of tomorrow and thus the confidence that things will continue.
The exciting concerts in our Jazzclub live series and, on November 27, Herbie Hancock, who will take to the stage of the legendary Kongresshalle with his band to round off the 43rd Leipziger Jazztage, will soon prove that it will go on. It will then have been a fantastic 12 days at 17 venues with more than 150 pioneers from 18 nations.
