Women in Jazz (3.-11.5.)
The undisputed capital of "women's jazz" is calling for attractive WiJ sound events that will echo within its walls once again, as they do every year!
Together with their band colleagues, artists from Asia, North and South America and Europe celebrate the boundless diversity of jazz music from different cultures. One of the festival highlights is the Paris-based New York singer Macha Gharibian, who brings together Armenian folk songs and Rachmaninov in a captivatinglyjazzy way to create her own captivating universe.
With "Female - Music made by women", singer Stefanie Boltz portrays twelve women from the worlds of classical music, jazz, blues and pop: from Hildegard von Bingen and Alma Mahler to Bessie Smith and Kate Bush. Virginia Mac Donald on clarinet, Sarah Chaksad and Emma Rawicz on saxophones as well as Marylin Mazur and her large all-women band Shamania will also be performing with their groups. In the concluding Jazz Soul Night, Afra Kane and Joy Denalane shine with their jazzy vocals.
The varied supporting program includes the virtual Next Generation competition for young female musicians, jazz concerts for children, a jazz picnic and a jazz church service.
We are sure you will agree: another harmonious festival!
