Shuteen Erdenebaatar Quartet
You can hear in her music that Shuteen Erdenebaatar, a pianist born in Mongolia, was initially trained in classical music—even though she has been part of the local jazz scene since moving to Munich in 2018.
There she met three musicians—Nils Kugelmann, Simon Comté, and Amir Bresler—who were more than a match for her equally virtuosic and soulful playing. It quickly becomes clear that this is no small feat when one takes a closer look at her music, in which the complex harmonies of classical music meet the unbridled energy of jazz.
Using a wide range of colors, she paints expressionistic soundscapes that sometimes speak in a stormy language, but often in an introverted, even shy one. At the same time, her playing leaves enough room for her fellow musicians, so that as time goes on, an interactive and highly stimulating musical dialogue emerges.
The fact that she has captivated not only the international press but also audiences at numerous international jazz festivals makes it clear: Shuteen Erdenebaatar is the jazz musician of the moment!
