JAZzCLUB LEIPZIG

Cancellation of all concerts until the end of February

We look forward to seeing our audience and everyone involved in making our concerts happen again at a later date!

Suddenly there was silence again! As the number of new Corona infections skyrocketed at the end of 2021 and hospitals were working at the limit of their capacity, stricter Corona protection measures were again in force in Saxony from mid-November. This so-called "lockdown light" once again had a significant impact on the cultural sector and thus also on our event operations. We had to cancel four concerts planned for the Advent season at short notice.

We decided against announcing two concerts planned for the beginning of the year after the first extension of the Corona protection measures on December 13, 2021. Also for the temporary suspension of the session "HMT Stage Night", which we organize in cooperation with the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre and which has found a new venue in the Moritzbastei since the beginning of the winter semester 2021/22.

The planned and in the meantime implemented relaxation of the Corona measures from January 14, 2022, gave us a cautious planning perspective temporarily. In coordination with the venues and musicians involved, we considered implementing our concerts planned for February.

Again rising incidences, an increasing spread of the according to experts clearly more contagious virus variant Omikron in combination with the estimation that the situation in the east of Germany due to the poor vaccination rate and the hospitals still heavily burdened by the Delta infection wave will in all likelihood lead to bottlenecks in testing, supply and overload of hospitals and staff (Thorsten Lehr, DLF, 05.01.2022) and thus also our planned concerts must be canceled again at short notice, let us pause and consider how a reaction appropriate to the situation should look.

First and foremost is the question of what we believe is a responsible approach. We believe that we should continue to do our utmost to slow down the spread of the virus. This concern, it seems to us, should be one of the key premises for our actions, given the available facts.

To make matters worse, we cannot plan without a long-term and prudent opening strategy! Organizing concerts with musicians from other countries requires advance planning. The continuous back and forth between planning, announcing, canceling, re-planning, hoping for an opening, re-planning and announcing ties up additional financial and human resources that we cannot afford in the long term.

Therefore we have decided to cancel all our planned concerts for the time being until the end of February!

We have not taken this decision lightly and are aware of the far-reaching consequences for the musicians*, who are also affected by a large number of cancellations for the umpteenth time. At best, none of our concerts should be canceled forever! Together with the musicians and venues involved, we will try again and if possible, to find new dates.
