The future is a contested field. This field must not be left only to those who talk about the future in order to be able to hang up their favorite picture of the past again. How different would a world be in which the future appears as an open project? A future that holds and allows a diversity of narratives without nipping them in the bud with a pompous permanent alarmism. A future with open doors, a future of possibility.
And the view of the 43rd Leipzig Jazz Days is also turned towards the future, especially in the year of "Future Music". Future pioneers of different generations will be there: Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, The Sun Ra Arkestra, Erika Stucky, Mouse on Mars, Mette Henriette, Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra, LIUN + The Science Fiction Band, Salomea and and and... In the 30th year after the Peaceful Revolution, the Jazztage also present a very special commissioned work at the Opera: in the festival project "Inseparable. Indivisible." the Spielvereinigung Sued and the MDR Rundfunkchor ask about universal values such as humanity, freedom and democracy. The libretto is provided by the renowned poet Nora Gomringer, the music by none other than the US composer and percussionist John Hollenbeck. You can find the complete program on our website. There you can also order the program booklet free of charge. Before we dive completely into the Jazz Days in October, our Jazz Club Live series will awaken from its summer sleep in September! You can find out more about this and much more on the following pages.
On World Peace Day, September 1, we get to vote on the future of our country. Political decisions affect us all. Therefore, I ask you to vote!
"Come! into the open, friend!"
