Jazzkalender #296

The future is a contested field. This field should not just be left to those who talk about the future in order to hang up their favorite picture of the past. How different would a world be in which the future appears as an open project? A future that holds and allows for a variety of narratives without nipping them in the bud with an overblown permanent alarmism. A future with open doors, a future of possibility.
And the 43rd Leipziger Jazztage also looks to the future, especially in the year of "Future Music". Pioneers of the future from different generations will be there: Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, The Sun Ra Arkestra, Erika Stucky, Mouse on Mars, Mette Henriette, Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra, LIUN + The Science Fiction Band, Salomea and and and and... In the 30th year after the Peaceful Revolution, the Jazz Days are also presenting a very special commissioned work at the opera: in the festival project "Inseparable. Indivisible." the Spielvereinigung Sued and the MDR Radio Choir explore universal values such as humanity, freedom and democracy. The libretto is by the renowned poet Nora Gomringer, the music by none other than the American composer and percussionist John Hollenbeck. You can find the complete program on our website. You can also order a free copy of the program there. Before we fully immerse ourselves in the Jazz Days in October, our Jazzclub live series will awaken from its summer slumber in September! You can find out more about this and much more on the following pages.
On World Peace Day, September 1, we can vote on the future of our country. Political decisions affect us all. That's why we urge you to go and vote!
"Come into the open, friend!"
