Jazzkalender #335

Let's talk about jazz... and counter-worlds

"A sentence with X...": Among other things, this probably also applies to the year that is now coming to an end. The US election, the traffic light shutdown, the climate crisis - you name it. Times like these demand more than ever that we transcend ourselves and the world around us and build counter-worlds so that our own spirit does not die of thirst due to the leaden status quo.

JAZZKALENDER DECEMBER/ January

"Distand Skies, We Dream" is the fitting title of Fabian Dudek's latest album. According to the FAZ, he is currently the "high-flyer of contemporary jazz". The Cologne saxophonist's music is dreamlike in the truest sense of the word, obsessive and light-footed, fantastic and cosmic at the same time - simply not of this world and therefore the right music at the right time. With Ruth Goller on electric bass and Kate Gentile on drums, he has now formed a new trio called Recent. They will be playing at naTo on 12.01. as part of our Jazzclub live series.

Because, as we all know, two is better than one, we are sending a second concert just two weeks later: with the Rainald Brederling Quintet, we were able to win another promising formation for the concert series. They too are not satisfied with social realities, but unlike Dudek, they also make this explicit in the lyrics of singer Sonia Loenne. She is flanked by the sometimes stormy, sometimes soulful interplay of her fellow musicians.

However, December still offers a number of great concerts and therefore the opportunity to end the year on a satisfying note, at least from a musical perspective. For example, the ADVENZZ BENEFIZZ on 12.12. at Horns Erben, the proceeds of which will go to the two civil society organizations SOS Humanity and TiMMi to help this year. As a special musical treat, the quartet Trunk/ Bergler/Kleimann/Mück led by Leipzig trombonist Alma Trunk will be performing alongside three other acts.

Four days earlier, Leipzig musician Damian Dalla Torre will be performing at UT Connewitz as part of the highly recommended TELESKOPradius series. He only released his second album "I Can Feel My Dreams" in the summer - which brings us back to the counter-world mentioned at the beginning. His music combines spherical ambient and new age sounds and thus resembles a free flight for long stretches - CO2-neutral, of course.

In this respect, we wish you happy floating and - of course - happy noise!

See you soon,

Luca
