Moritz Sembritzki & Das VIELE - Brassband of the HMT Leipzig "Tristan and Isolde
Blechern-zappaesque musical drama in 45 minutes with long encore
What happens when a marching band of 20 music-crazy jazz students stages the highly dramatic Wagner opera "Tristan und Isolde" and the music is arranged by a young composer who counts Frank Zappa and Grandmaster Flash among his musical idols?
King Marke (tuba) is dismayed to catch Isolde (soprano saxophone), who has been promised to him, in flagrante delicto with Tristan (trombone), while the traitor Melot (tenor saxophone) stands on the sidelines celebrating and Brangäne (clarinet), full of guilt, tries to calm the tempers. The musicians of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig slip into truly new roles and get the opportunity to show their acting qualities as well. Despite all the winking, the musical greatness of the work is not mocked, but celebrated.
