Applications for the 26th Jazz Young Talent Award of the City of Leipzig are open until March 31, 2022.

Last year, the 25th winner of the Jazz Nachwuchspreis der Stadt Leipzig Philippos Thönes opened the 45th Leipziger Jazztage "Body Time" with the band Church of Jupiter following the award ceremony by Bert Noglik and Lord Mayor Burkhard Jung! 

The award recognizes young musicians (individuals and ensembles who are not older than 30 years by March 31, 2022) who are active in the field of jazz and who can be expected to show special artistic development. The Jazz Nachwuchspreis of the city of Leipzig is endowed with a prize money of 6,500 € and is supported by the Marion-Ermer-Foundation. In addition, a concert by the prize winner with his or her band or by the award-winning ensemble will take place as part of the Leipzig Jazz Days 2022.  

In 2021, Bert Noglik stepped down as jury chairman and expressed the following wish with regard to the future of the prize: "If I could wish for something, it would be that we could honor even more female-read prize winners in the future. So far we have had four out of twenty-five, which is at least something, but too few. The impetus can only come from the scene itself. With Eva Klesse, in future at the head of the jury, a signal will also be set for this."
