Carl Christian Wittig's Songs of Silver Gray

Rose Valley

The ambiguity of the color gray in relation to the contemplation of the forest thematized in five new compositions.
Walk and concert also from 16:00.

Catch-up date from the MusikZeit 2021 "Jazz & Nature". In good weather, in the Rose Valley. A bad weather version indoors is also planned.

Inspired by "The Gray Tree" by Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, the Leipzig-based double bassist composed five pieces for a new band lineup specifically for the thematic focus of MusikZeit . Songs of Silver Gray thematizes the ambiguity of the color gray in relation to the contemplation of the forest. The sprouting of willow catkins in spring tells of ongoing return, the hope of continuance. This confidence is echoed in the art-song echoes of Wittig's pieces. The dying trees, their green lost in gnarled branches and gray, are another contemporary perspective on the forest, whose lush growth has long been confronted by many threats. Wittig has also dealt with scenarios of forest extinction and knows how to make the apocalyptic shiver that seized him during his reflections comprehensible by means of his compositions. Thematically appropriate, this concert will take place outdoors under trees and with the kind support of the Natural History Museum Leipzig. Together with wilderness educator Elisa Buchterkirchen from the Vier Fährten Wilderness School, we will walk from the arranged meeting point to the location of the musical event and learn more about the current state of the forest and possible future scenarios along the way.

Walk and concert also from 16:00.

Meeting point: 51.348197, 12.366296 (pond at the entrance to the Rose Valley on Emil Fuchs Street).

Since the places are limited, we ask for prior registration via tickets@jazzclub-leipzig.de, indicating the desired time.
