At the end of January 2022, the debut album of double bassist Carl Christian Wittig, which is well worth listening to, was released by nWog-Records. Now he brings the music of his genre-bending octet live on stage.

"The idea came to me in the spring," answers Leipzig-based double bassist Carl Christian Wittig when asked when he first thought of combining the sonic beauty of a jazz quartet with that of a string ensemble to create a new, multi-faceted body of sound. "I want to make music that combines many different timbres and textures, and working with a larger ensemble appealed to me in this regard," he says. Six years have passed since this initial idea of Wittig's and the resulting need for its realization; six years in which the young musician sought to recruit band members, found them primarily at the Leipzig University of Music and Theatre, and allowed his idea to grow. An important part of this maturation process was a semester abroad in Switzerland and the close exchange there with trombonist Nils Wogram, on whose label nWog-Records Wittig's debut "Perspective Suite" was released earlier this year. Commenting on his compositions, Wittig himself says: "The basic idea of the album is to look at life and the problems associated with it from a different perspective. I like to imagine what it would be like to see the world from the moon. This feeling of being above things, of being able to look down on them, appeals to me." This reflection on perspective, cast in music, is worth listening to. His release concert here in spring closes the circle and presents the idea that has become form.
