Small cast - big visions
Small cast - big visions
Two men, a drum kit, a trumpet, a mini Moog synthesizer a small box of electronic toys. Nothing more. That sounds like acoustic minimalism - and is the exact opposite. Because the two young musicians conjure up worlds of sound from this modest arsenal with technical routine, playful creativity and musical visions that could hardly be more multi-layered and exciting, even in a larger line-up.
The foundation on which they build their sound sculptures is called groove. It can consist of sonorous loops, complex percussion or bubbling acid sequences. This foundation forms the basis for free improvisations, associative melodic fragments, discreetly placed stylistic quotations and a tendency towards a melancholy mood. Much can, nothing must. What is important above all is emotional density, and this can arise in very different ways depending on the place and environment.
You could hear that the two courageous visionaries are a well-coordinated team. After turning Polish jazz upside down with the band Robotobibok and causing a sensation outside the country (including in Leipzig), they founded their micro-collective in 2004 and have been playing in an unchanged line-up ever since. Their efforts to constantly expand their sonic cosmos were rewarded - they were the first European jazz formation ever to take the American free jazz label Delmark under their wing, and in 2010 they released their album "Revisit" and the live DVD "Dew Point."
