Tenors of Kalma
Dark'n'dancy electro pop jazz - Sun Ra meets Kraftwerk! Go-Go-Go!
Tickets 9 - 16 Euro
If one associates Jimi Tenor with very different, but always rather pop and funk oriented projects, Kalle Kalima has so far attracted attention mainly as a lateral thinking jazz guitarist. But Tenor is not only a conceptual artist, accomplished keyboardist, singer and Afrobeat lover, but also a saxophonist and flutist.
The originally intended antithesis to free improvisations, i.e. the clear sound architecture of Kraftwerk, shifted towards psychedelic jazz-rock during the studio sessions of the Tenors of Kalma.
Those who like to track down historical references will have a lot of fun with the Tenors of Kalma. Not only because of the - thanks to some vintage equipment - rather analog overall aesthetic. Echoes of the early, raucous Pink Floyd can be made out as well as ideas of the Canterbury scene or mind-expanded visions of the American kind. Complex rhythmic structures oscillate between Afrobeat and King Crimson, and in the ballad "Blind" even a Crosby, Stills & Nash-style harmony vocal shines through.
Jimi Tenor (voc, sax, keys, elec), Kalle Kalima (g, elec, voc) and Joonas Riippa (dr)
