Selfcare is a tough quest, the road to resilience is rocky. Depression in the dog looking down. Dissonance while cutting vegetables. And always these feelings.
The quintet around double bassist Paula Wünsch, with Gustav Geissler and Lukas Diller on saxophones, Simon Lucaciu on piano and Philipp Scholz on drums, provides relief straight from the stage. The boundaries blur between free improvisation and composition, soundscapes emerge, repeatedly cut up by catchy melodies and grooves, sometimes soothing, sometimes stirring. And it always moves forward somehow.
Wünsch has been studying at the jazz department of HMT Leipzig since 2018 and is active with electric bass and double bass in a wide variety of formations, such as Spielvereinigung Sued and her own bands Shejust_Left and Plosiv.
The usual "Stage Night" is the weekly jam session of the Jazzclub Leipzig in cooperation with the local music academy (HMT Leipzig). With the "Stage Night Special", the Leipziger Jazztage present an up-and-coming band on one of their festival stages every year.
