Manfred Schulze Wind Quintet
Original compositions and arrangements by Schulze, who left an indelible mark on the jazz scene of the GDR.
Manfred Schulze led the wind quintet until the early 1990s. After a serious illness, he lived in a Berlin nursing home from 1991, where he died in 2010. As early as 1993, former comrades-in-arms of the baritone saxophonist formed a new wind quintet, which was recast several times and continues Schulze's intention. The saxophonist Manfred Hering, who was one of the founding members in 1969, is still with the group. Heiner Reinhardt also played with Manfred Schulze in the wind quintet from 1978. The concern of the current line-up is to let the original compositions and arrangements shine with creative power. The pieces reveal their manifesto character: at the same time complicated and wonderfully simple, challenging and filled with great joy of playing, set with a clearly structuring mind and brought to sound with devotion.
