Heinz Sauer & Michael Wollny "Don't Explain

The dream couple of German jazz walks down the aisle
A musical tightrope walk without a net or a false bottom. These are the concerts of the "dream couple in German jazz". What was trained to the circumstances at their first joint appearance more than ten years ago (Wollny was still studying at the time and Sauer was not yet seventy) is their special strength today: while there was a lack of space on stage and time for arrangements back then, improvisation, closeness and familiarity have long since become the principle of this duo. The concentration of both is entirely on the moment, the counterpart and the place of the musical encounter, and they constantly reinvent their music.
Many see Heinz Sauer as a jazz legend and Michael Wollny as one of the greatest talents on the piano. But the one does not yet want to retire to the museum of legends, and the other has long outgrown talent status. Heinz Sauer and Michael Wollny are simply what they are: great musicians and together the dream couple of German jazz. That's why they finally step in front of the altar in the Michaeliskirche.
