essence of north
Goosebumps music inspired by the northern lights, the silence and the forces of nature of a volcanic island in the Atlantic.
In duo with Icelandic violinist Gerður Gunnarsdóttir, Swiss clarinettist and composer Claudio Puntin has created poetic miniatures. The silence and expanse of the songs and minimal music poems create in their melodic naturalness a refuge within overflowing hecticness. The figurative catchiness and their embracing warmth, however, also allow free space for complex structures, similar to a northern light, which needs no explanation to be experienced.
The two musicians look back on an extraordinary musical career. Many years of experience in international orchestras and ensembles such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Ensemble Modern, Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, Konzerthausorchester Berlin as well as intensive collaboration with international soloists of the electronic and creative scene such as Carla Bley, Steve Reich, Nils Wogram, Fred Frith, Ricardo Villalobos, Emiliana Torrini, Samuel Rohrer, Jan Bang and many others have shaped their creative breeding ground. After their joint ECM milestone "Ylir", they now present another facet of their ethereal music.
