Bubbling over musicality. KID BE KID combines hip-hop and jazz in equal measure with a neo-soul voice. Prelude: HMT Stage Night Special with Keboo.

What does the Fusion Festival in Lärz have in common with the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal? Correct! The dropped jaws after a performance by KID BE KID. The Berlin-born artist has been on a wave of success for some time now, as she takes neo-soul to a new and unique level. Her songs show an unbelievable density, where you wouldn't guess she's sitting alone at a piano. But it's not just the piano that convinces in its brute subtlety. The main theme is probably taken over by her voice. A voice that carries a certain tenderness, but at the same time is bursting with energy. Just like a Ki(n)d. One could think! But for a child jumping around in the area, it's all too mature, too professional, too polished.

Her voice is in permanent change, doesn't jump around, but knows exactly where it's going. At the appropriate moment it is extended by beat-boxing and underlined with synth sounds. One woman, four sonic elements - and all without a looper.

When she says she wants to keep her inner child, we believe her anyway. Because it is a new sound, a young sound. The sound of a future generation that will not only musically override the old, but also wants to put conventional role models and gender attributions to rest. Lyrically and textually this can be heard, for example, with the line "We All Are Beautiful" on the track "Lovely Genders". That's the message and that's just the beginning!
