International Jazz Festival Saalfelden
Jazz even more so! From 16 - 22 August, the festival takes place in the middle of the Alps.
Jazz more than ever! Just awarded the German Brand Award 2021, "Saalfelden" - the festival in the midst of the Alps - is back in reality viral thought: extended to a week, with concerts in the great outdoors and new locations, on guided hikes and a bike tour in the mountains. A total of more than 60 concerts await us, around 40 of them with free admission. The international scene will also be represented again on the main stage in the Congress and at the Short Cuts in the Nexus. Saxophonist Angelika Niescier will be taking improvisational flights of fancy with Alexander Hawkins on the grand piano, and in the sextet "re: BTHVN" (with Christopher Dell on vibraphone, among others) will be showing her reflections on some of his string quartets in retrospect to the 250th birthday of the great Ludwig van Beethoven. As a piano duo, Sylvie Courvoisier and Kris Davis, voted Pianist of the Year in the 2020 Downbeat Critics Poll, find themselves together. Jelena Kuljic and KUU! bring their new product "Artificial Sheep" into position. To socially critical poems by Robert Frost, Kaja Draksler sketches poetic melodies for her octet, while Marc Ribot lets his strings cry out against social and political injustices...
