After three months, they will be back on stage together for the first time on May 21, 2020! Eva Klesse, Philip Frischkorn, Stefan Schönegg and Evgeny Ring have missed making music together and are looking forward to many spectators from near and far. A wild mixture of songs from their last albums, previews of the new album (release in October) and possibly even a few world premieres (new songs created in Corona times) will be performed live from the Werkcafé at Kulturhof Gohlis. Streaming will take place on the YouTube channel of LeipStream.
The band would like to forward a part of the donations to SOS MEDITERRANEE, an organization to which they already feel connected for a long time, and which has already been supported frequently in the context of the benefit concerts of the fizz collective.
A link for the donation account will follow shortly at this point.
Since 2013, the Eva Klesse Quartet has been delighting its listeners in Germany and around the world. After three successful albums ("miniatures" - 2018, "Obenland" - 2016, and "Xenon" - 2014) the fourth album of the band will be released in autumn 2020.
The last release "miniatures" was highly praised by the specialized press and with many concerts in Germany and abroad (including Jazzfest Berlin, Jazz Festival Buenos Aires, Euro Jazz Festival Mexico City, 12 Points Festival) the young quartet manifested its status as an emerging force in the European jazz scene.
A critic of JazzThing described the music of the Eva Klesse Quartet as "wild, romantic, elegiac, gripping". The FAZ found: "Much develops fluidly, typical boundaries between composition and improvisation dissolve imperceptibly. Thanks to interesting melodies and harmonies, the jazz of the Eva Klesse Quartet is attractive to different listeners and yet far from mainstream."
In spring 2018, Eva Klesse was appointed professor of jazz percussion at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media, and in 2019 the band leader was awarded the JTI Trier Jazz Award, and in 2017 the Westfalen Jazz Prize. The jury wrote: "Klesse impresses with dynamic playing, masters the finest nuances and most delicate tones. [...] She is a creative designer with an identifiable handwriting and a congenial partner at the same time." In 2015, the band's debut album "Xenon" was awarded the Echo Jazz in the category "Newcomer of the Year". Concert tours have taken the band to Chile, Argentina, Malaysia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, France, Honduras, El Salvador, Serbia, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, Turkey and China, among other places.
The characteristic, chamber music-like transparent sound of the Eva Klesse Quartet is captivating due to the attention to detail and the extraordinary interplay of the four excellent instrumentalists. The clear, cleverly branched compositions and balanced improvisations make every concert of the band a unique experience. In recent years, the band has matured artistically, proving this with an astonishing depth of expression and musical storytelling.
