Both bands negotiate the relationship between individuality and commonality within a moment, a composition and a collective in different ways. If Die Unwucht feat. Achim Kaufmann is more about emphasizing the dissonances of negotiation processes, BREU tries to create a communal space for development. An exciting double concert evening in an extraordinary setting on the summer stage at the Panometer.

Die Unwucht feat. Achim Kaufmann: An unbalance means the asymmetrical mass distribution of a rotating body, in which the parts of a whole are unevenly weighted. In their musical creative processes, saxophonist Christopher Kunz and drummer Florian Fischer are searching for precisely these states of being out of balance: in free improvisations between sound and non-sound, between whole and individual, between being on and being off. In doing so, they consciously play with imbalance in order to ultimately find their way into an equal dialogue. Inspired by John Coltrane and Rashied Ali and their album "Interstellar Space", Die Unwucht sound out their own creative power with integrity and unconditional openness to the moment on their debut album "First Intake" (released in May 2021). For the first time in a trio together with pianist Achim Kaufmann.

BREU: "When something common emerges from distinctive individual voices - not the lowest common denominator, but the greatest possible room for everyone to develop." So drummer Maximilian Breu on the question of when a band is a band. The encounter of individual and expressive sound production and the finding of new ways of expression are the focus of his compositions. With his idiosyncratic and engaging drumming, he and his band colleagues sometimes take detours towards the goal of common music that is stylistically open and unpredictable: Sometimes it develops organically, dashes ahead indie-rocky, pauses or bubbles underground. Already last year Breu convinced with his highly energetic playing formation Space Shuttle in the context of the Leipzig Jazztage 2020. BREU's debut album will be released in the next few months and on August 4 some of the pieces appearing on it will already be heard.
